Mar/Apr ‘24: What’s New in What’s Old

We are over the moon excited about some of the viewers featured here. Starting with the rare Mikro-Kino 35mm stereo filmstrip viewer that we have spent years trying to acquire — we finally found it and can pair it with the Mikro-Kino filmstrips we already had. Next, you might have to be a geeky nerd about collecting to fully understand how ecstatic we were to find a sales sampler of the Stere-o-Card viewer. We’ve spent years building a sub-collection of the various advertising Stere-o-Card viewers, so finding the actual sales demo version, in like-new condition, was a joy. Then, there’s the Sträuli & Cie tin stereoscope. It’s more than just a new addition to our NPG tin viewer collection. A few months ago, a member of the Sträuli family contacted us and kindly shared information about the viewer and its history. At the time, we’d never seen it before and now, just a few months later, we came across one and were able to add it to our collection.

Next, you may already know we aren’t dedicated View-Master collectors. We’ll only add one if it’s hard to find or speaks to our interests. That’s how we ended up adding three View-Masters to our collection in April and May. One plays music, one has a test color never made available to the general public, and one was packaged to show off tile installations, capturing some really cool mid-century bathrooms and kitchens.

Finally, we added a couple more viewers to our Stereo-foto and Pendoplast sub-collections.
