Chromat-o-Scope Twin-Vue Stereoscope

Los Angeles, CA, United States, 1940s

This small, handheld wood stereo viewer was of immediate interest to us as soon as we saw it. Chromat-o-scope is well-known for their single-slide viewers dating back to the mid-century and they are easy to find. But not much could be found about a stereoscope the company supposedly made, and even less about any specific slides it might take. But here it is: the viewer and the slide mounts (these containing nude images of women). Interestingly enough, none of the text on or inside the box says anything about 3D or stereo. Could there have been some other purpose for simultaneously viewing 2 slides side-by-side?
