Colorscope Stereo Viewer

Illinois, United States, 1950s

Made by the Colorscope Corporation, this beautiful red 3D viewer is one of our favorites. They’ve become increasingly hard to find and if you can find one without the card slot warped closed, you’re very lucky. A variety of cards were available, as shown below, as well as sets in leather cases. There was also a brown version. The Colorscope was also used as the viewer in the Chief coin-operated tabletop stereo viewer.

Colorscope Boxed Set

A different Colorscope box. This set came with an instruction sheet with a card list on the back. Also included were a set of Colorscope-branded cards and Magicolor-branded cards.

Colorscope Leather-Cased Set

This Colorscope came in a leather case. The cards in this set contain 11 views instead of 9 like the cards above.

Colorscope Magicolor

Curves like a back road. The sexy and scarce 1940s Colorscope Magicolor viewer. The first viewer I've seen with a mini-plunger! Fun fact I read: besides being handheld viewers, these were also built inside Colorscope's Penny Peep Show 1-cent slot machines.
