The Midcentury Photorama - Through the Motor Ages with Paul Garrett

United States, 1950s

This Holmes-style stereoscope and the 13 Keystone-published stereoview cards belong to a boxed set titled “The Midcentury Photorama or Through the Motor Ages with Paul Garrett.” It’s from the GM Chicago Reception held on February 20, 1950. We don’t have the box and we believe the original set had 14 cards. What we DO know is that the portrayal and commentary on the women pictured would not pass today’s smell test, especially in a business setting. Paul Garrett was the director of public relations for General Motors (GM). This viewer design was popular in the late 1800s with Keystone View Company publishing cards through 1963.
